Weight Loss Myths You Should Think Twice About

#1. If you lose weight quickly, you won’t be able to sustain the loss.

Some people argue that losing weight quickly doesn’t teach you sustainable habits that will help you keep the weight off. However, there isn’t much research to back up this claim. The truth is, the likelihood of someone keeping off the weight that they lose has a lot more to do with the person’s personality than it has to do with how long it took them to lose the weight. If someone is dedicated to a healthier lifestyle and is motivated to continue eating well and exercising after they lose weight, it shouldn’t matter how long it took them to lose the weight in the first place.

#2. Setting a large weight loss goal is only setting you up for failure.

While it is important to mark the milestones of your weight loss journey, it’s not a bad idea to have an end goal in mind. If you have 100 pounds to lose, just because your first goal is to lose 10 pounds doesn’t mean that you won’t feel the other 90 pounds looming in the background, and that you won’t know that you eventually have to lose that weight as well. You can definitely set small goals for yourself as you go, but it’s ok to make your overall goal be a 100 pound weight loss if that’s what you know you’d like to lose.

#3. If you weigh yourself daily you’ll be discouraged.

You may not see a big change on the scale if you weigh yourself daily, but there certainly isn’t any harm in doing so. Deciding to weigh yourself daily, weekly, or monthly really just depends on how big of a difference you want to see when you weigh. If you like to see how your weight changes day to day, weighing on a daily basis would probably be encouraging to you. If you prefer to see a bigger difference in the number you see on the scale, weighing yourself less frequently would probably be better.
