Are These Things Affecting Your Ability To Lose Weight?

Not Enough Sleep

Are you staying up too late and waking up too early thanks to a busy schedule? Being tired has become a norm in American culture. We work too much and we don’t rest our bodies enough. While it may seem like you should be fitting as much as you possibly can into your days, the more time you give yourself to rest and get to bed at a reasonable time, the better your body will respond to your efforts to lose weight. Additionally, people who are awake for more hours during the day are likely to eat more food. If you have to, set an alarm on your phone that lets you know when it’s time to go to bed. Make sure that you allow for at least seven to eight hours of sleep per night.

Too Many Calories

If you’ve started a new diet where you don’t do any kind of portion control or calorie counting because the foods that you are eating are “healthy,” you may be doing yourself some harm. Even the healthiest of foods have calories and contain starches and sugars, and when you consume too many of these foods, you could see little to no weight loss. Try to make sure you are getting enough of a variety in your diet. Don’t eat too many fruits, veggies, carbs, or meats. Make sure you’re diet is well rounded to avoid getting too much of one thing and possibly deterring your weight loss.

No Accountability

Continuing our point from above, if you’re not practicing portion control or keeping track of calories, the next question is: Are you aware of everything that you consume? It can be easy to eat too much of something because we think it’s good for us. Alternatively, it’s also easy to snack throughout the day and not even be aware of what you’re consuming. Do you remember everything you eat in a day? If you have trouble snacking throughout the day, try starting a food journal. Write down everything that you eat in the day, even if it’s a handful of grapes when you walked through the kitchen. You may be surprised to see that your snacks throughout the day add up

Low Water Intake

Our bodies are made-up of about 60 to 70 percent water, which means we need to drink a lot of water in order to keep our bodies functioning the way they were intended to. Not only is water good for us because of the many health benefits that it provides, including clearer skin and boosting your immune system, but water also helps us to feel full. While the amount of water you should be consuming within a day has been long-debated—some people believe the ounces you drink should be based on your weight, some believe it should be the standard eight glasses a day, and some people believe that you should only drink when you’re thirsty—the fact of the matter is, if you drink a glass of water before you eat, you are more likely to feel full before you eat, so you can eat less than you normally would. For clarification, this isn’t bad for you. Most of the time when we feel hungry, it is our body trying to tell us that we are thirsty.

Medication Interference

Sometimes, you really can be doing everything right. The problem may be that you’re taking a medication that is either causing weight gain or it is keeping you from losing weight. Check with your doctor about any medications you’re taking. There may be an alternative medication that you could switch to that won’t affect your ability to lose weight.

Problematic Hormones

While there are some medications that can make losing weight difficult, you may actually need medical treatment in order to get your body to respond to your efforts to lose weight. If you have a hormone imbalance and you’re not aware of it, that may be a factor in whether or not you can lose weight. Signs of a hormonal imbalance can include an inability to sleep, night sweats, fatigue, low sex drive, and chronic acne. If you suspect you could be suffering from a hormonal imbalance, contact your doctor. If you’d like to explore new solutions for weight loss and you live in the Houston area, call Novopelle Med Spa.
