Get Ready for Warmer Weather and Smoother Skin with Laser Hair Removal

With the warmer weather, of course, brings fewer clothes – a perfect time for laser hair removal. Birds are chirping, daffodils are blooming and the sun is shining higher in the sky. These signs all point to one thing: Spring! Shorts, sundresses, and flip-flops are regular spring attire and following a long, cold winter – many people are dusting off their razors and heating their wax for the first time in months in preparation of donning their favorite wardrobe. Others don’t have to because they’ve already invested in laser hair removal. In fact, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that more than a million Americans used the procedure in 2014, a 51-percent rise since 2000. While shaving and waxing remove hair on the skin’s surface for a brief time, lasers are able to target hair that lies beneath the skin – the follicle under the dermis. The laser is able to target the follicle and burn it without burning the skin – leaving patients with smooth, hair-free skin year-round.

The Process

A technician or physician emits split-second beams of light to the requested area. Clients are asked to shave the area first or can have it shaved by the technician or physician during their appointment. The laser destroys the hair bulb underneath, and a few days or weeks later, the remaining hairs fall out. Laser hair removal can be applied to nearly any body part – legs, underarms, face, fingers, toes, arms or private areas.

Clients

Recent research shows that women aren’t the only ones concerned with unwanted hair growth. A 2009 study found that 84 percent of men in the U.S. now shave areas other than their face. Another survey in 2014 found that 17 percent of hair removal clients in London are men.

Results

Results of laser hair removal vary depending on a number of factors, mainly what area is being treated. Laser removal also tends to work better on dark, thick hair opposed to light, thin hair. For instance, underarm or bikini areas may take fewer treatments and show more significant results than say arm-hair removal. Sessions vary in length depending on which body part is treated—a little fuzz on your upper lip might take five minutes to zap, while an entire leg or back might require a 30-minute session. The process requires multiple sessions for complete hair removal, typically anywhere between six to eight sessions for about a 90 percent reduction. This is because the lasers work best on active hair growth. Approximately 25 percent of hairs are removed in the first treatment. While laser hair removal may initially be more expensive than a razor or wax – it is a permanent solution.   Learn more about Laser Hair Removal at Novopelle
